Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The best way to improve your equipment in Path of Exile is through item upgrades. This lets you upgrade your gear without having rely on expensive drops or trades. This article will show you how to upp your items efficiently.

Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item's stats. This bonus is based on the upgrade component's level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components make your weapons and armour better. You can get them from the destruction of enemies, finding them in item spheres, or buying them from karma dealers. You can also get them from equipment containing the components or through high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Unlike most other items, upgrade components are not destroyed when removed from an item.

The main purpose of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded however, they also serve other purposes. They can be used to increase the level of experience gained by upgrading existing weapons or gear. They can be made for extra bonuses. For example, a designed glyph will increase the chances of upgrading its target, and an upgrade boost will increase the attack or defense property of a weapon, or armor.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will let you bind it to an item. This will display the upgrade components that the item can be updated. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either scenario, an item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been gathered.

Each component has a different experience multiplier that affects the amount of experience an item gets when it upgrades with the component. For instance, organic components have a more experience multipliers than mechanical ones. It is therefore best to upgrade with organic components until you reach the experience multiplier of the next rank of equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the experience multiplier every item also has a maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgrades available is determined by its upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade available to the upgradeable item. For instance, the most expensive possible weapon upgrade is a weapon with tier 10. The most popular weapon upgrade is a tier 6 gun and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a collection of items which all have the same bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once and the upgrade item (click the next page) increases the guaranteed bonuses. When you first upgrade the set piece or weapon is that it will be given a +1 increase to its primary stat. Following upgrades, the primary stats will be increased even more (for instance the +1 bonus for 12+/13+/14+) and each time an item is upgraded, one of its additional stats increases randomly.

The equipment's identification will change from a weapons to armor, or vice versa. The basic requirements and stats remain the same.
