How to unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs offer greater functionality and ease of use as compared to manual keys. However, they do require batteries that will eventually degrade over time and will require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, the battery may be dying and you will need to replace it in the near future.

Fortunately, there are simple steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. Find a clean area to work on. Make a list of all the tools you'll require. Then, locate the battery hatch, and then open it with a flathead, coin, or any other similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, place the new battery into its socket. Make sure that the positive end of the battery is facing up, and that all clips are secured. Then slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop until it loosens and slips off. Then, remove the cover and reveal the key blade hidden inside. This is a way to unlock your car by the driver's side doors if the key fob battery is dead or has been lost.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs which can perform more than just unlock or lock the doors. They can also perform other functions like summoning and auto parking the vehicle. In fact, the newest Volvo XC60 can even remotely start your engine by using its key fob buttons. But how exactly does it work?

The battery can be replaced with a flathead screwdriver, pry bar made of plastic or other small tools. First look for the small slot where the backup / emergency ignition key made of metal be. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently pry open the back of the fob for the key. Once the fob has been opened, locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Install a new battery in its place and connect the fob.

Note: Certain older Volvo models use a different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032 and you'll have to be very careful when replacing your battery.

How to Unlock the Hidden Key Blade

Key fobs from Volvo have advanced in recent years. They're more than just a remote for locking and starting your car; they can also roll down your windows, and provide a boost in an emergency. You'll first need to master using your key fob to fully unlock its potential.

Your key fob contains the transponder chip programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel, transponder chips read the code and compares it with the one stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes don't match then your car won't begin. This is an important security measure to prevent your Volvo from running if the wrong ignition key is used.

If you lose your key and you lose it, you must take it to a dealer to have it replaced and your car changed. This process can last up to 10 working days and will cost a significant amount of cash. You can save money by programming your own computer. You can find the necessary information in your owner's manual or on the internet. Take off the logo and non-logo covers and place your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Press the grey button on the upper right corner of your fob. This will allow the cover to open and reveal the CR 2032 3V battery.
